The impact of using a reverse proxy is most noticeable if you get a lot of traffic. When combined with a caching plugin (such as WP Rocket), your server will be able to serve thousands of requests concurrently.

Enabling the NGINX reverse proxy for a domain

  1. In Sites and Databases > Domains, click on Add Domain (or edit an existing domain)
  2. Check the Proxy static files option
  3. You can add or remove file extensions. Only files with those extensions will be proxied - other files will be served by Apache
  4. If you use WP Rocket, select the "Optimize for WP Rocket" option
  5. Save your settings
